Is it too early to look forward to the holiday offer? 2024 movie schedule? I only ask because after watching the first trailer for Red OneI am pleasantly surprised by the buddy police team, then Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans. Although I’ll admit, some of that surprise comes from the boys teaming up against murderous snowmen and Krampus; with the other half to be seen in a rather interesting release model shakeup.
Story-wise, the film seems to play out in an interesting way, especially based on what we know about Red One. With JK SimmonsWhen Santa is kidnapped, Johnson’s North Pole roughneck is forced to cooperate with Evans’ character. The good news is that he is an excellent tracker; but the bad news is that he’s also one of Naughty List’s most notorious people.
If you ask me, it’s a buddy cop formula that’s full of glitter and badass. Especially when this upcoming Dwayne Johnson movie sets these men on a mission against creatures that look like this:
The good news doesn’t stop there, however, as a rather exciting shakeup has occurred regarding the Amazon MGM Studios film’s release strategy. Apparently, this once streaming-bound holiday blockbuster has been moved up to theatrical release; with Red One getting a pretty good November release date.
That’s where some wall punching comes into play, like Doug Limanpp upset about Road House’s streaming debut has probably been excited by this development. At the same time, I can see why Red One could be more easily transferred to a theatrical release. I mean, if you were to watch The Rock and the MCU’s former Captain America wreak havoc with Krampus and other holiday characters, doesn’t a movie theater sound like the place to be?
This really looks like a would-be holiday blockbuster, and afterward Road House’s crazy streaming numbersthe costumes on Amazon MGM studios may be in the market to try and turn the likes of Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans’ latest into a potential theatrical hit. Considering Inside out 2s continued box office successthis looks like a very smart move in a family-friendly market.
You don’t need Krampus to punch you in the face to see that. And come November 15th, you won’t need one Prime Video subscription to see Red One! But even if the film arrives aboard its sled, in theaters only, on November 15, you’ll definitely want to have that platform on your side to revisit the film once it makes its way home.
After all, if this action flick hits like it should, it might just become a holiday tradition that everyone will rally around on an annual basis. And isn’t that what Santa wants? Except for being rescued from captivity, of course.
