For those who worship at the altar of Mindy Kaling, February brings good news.
The comedian’s latest project, “Running Point,” is a 10-episode comedy series starring Kate Hudson. When a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla (Hudson) becomes responsible for the LA Waves, one of the most famous NBA teams – and a family business. Even starring Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Jay Ellis and Max Greenfield, the show is the simplest of easy binge watches, with a bunch of comedians (and hilarious famous cameos!) letting loose to do their thing.
For a laugh-free experience, also find this month Robert De Niro in its first regular season TV role, when the limited series “Zero Day,” also featuring Jesse Plemons, Lizzy Caplan, Angela Bassett and Connie Britton will hit the platform on February 20.
Here’s the log line: “Respected former US President George Mullen, as head of the Zero Day Commission, is charged with finding the perpetrators of a devastating cyberattack that has caused chaos around the country and thousands of victims. As disinformation runs rampant and powerbrokers’ personal ambitions in technology , Wall Street and government collide, Mullen’s relentless search for the truth forces him to confront his own dark secrets while risking everything he holds dear.”
Fat timing given, yes, everything, but look for it to dominate streaming chart after the decline.
Top Pick: “Apple Cider Vinegar”
We love a con man – at least on TV. Netflix goes back to “Invents Anna” well, this time I’m telling the story of Australian wellness influencer Belle Gibson (Kaitlyn Dever), who scammed people out of tons of money by selling health supplements while falsely claiming she had brain cancer. The six-episode limited series, also starring Alycia Debnam-Carey, Aisha Dee and Ashley Zukerman, was created by Samantha Strauss. With the tagline “a true story based on a lie,” expect to hit Wikipedia after each episode to learn the full story. (Or pick up nonfiction on which the series is based“The Woman Who Fooled the World,” by Beau Donelly and Nick Toscano.)
