Diane Warren Have never won an Oscar. But she has many Oscar nominations.
Songwriter just landed his 16th Oscar nomination in the original song category for “The Journey” from Tyler Perry’s Netflix movie “The Six Triple Eight” performed by her and she has an honorary Oscar, which Academy awarded her 2022; But she has not yet won a competitive.
And yes, she would like to win. “Yes, I would like to break my decades long tradition and win.”
Warren’s Song is up to “El Mal” and “Mi Camino” from “Emilia Pérez.” “Never too late” from “Elton John: never too late” and “like a bird” from “Sing Sing.”
Can this finally be her year?
When we speak, Warren realizes that she is in full circle in a moment. She and Gabby Wilson, who are professionally known as her, share the same lawyer and go far back.
“We actually met when she was 15 years old, and here we are back together, so this song is our trip to come back together and create this beautiful work,” says Warren. It was the film’s producer Keri Selig who beat Warren for the gig; But Selig went a step further. “She had the Sizzle roll, and she walked me through the movie scene after the stage. The film tells the story of the 6888th central postal directory battalion, the only squad of black women and women in color serving in Europe during World War II.

“It usually doesn’t happen. Sometimes a teenage piece comes, but the whole choir came with these chords, she says.
Then she had to find the right singer. Warren compares the process of casting. “You have to be genuine for the movie and the song,” she explains.
When she first met her, Warren remembers: “She was a child, but she entered my office, and I said,” Oh my God, you are 15, and you are so good. “” Warren blew away. They were intended to work with materials, but the project never happened.
The time worked for them this time. After losing contact, they started exchanging DMS just like Warren had finished “the journey.” Her came to Warren’s Hollywood studio. “I played her the song, and she was so moved by it. But when she left, she had already played piano, guitar and sang one of the best song I’ve ever heard in my life, ”exclaims Warren. “That song is up there with Whitney (Houston). It is a master class in how to make the perfect song. ”
The women in the heart of the film are unspoken heroes who show their determination. The texts are about resilience and endurance: “Every time you thought you would never do it/ felt just like the world just turned your back on you/ didn’t stop you” seems on time.
Warren is among the few who have collected these many Oscar nominations without a profit. Her remarkable nods include “because you loved me” from “Up Close & Personal” (1996), “How do I live” from “Con Air” (1997), “I don’t want to miss one thing” from “Armageddon” (1998) , “Where you will be” from
“Pearl Harbor” (2001) and most recently “The Fire Inside” from “Flamin ‘Hot” (2023).
How does Warren feel to have never won? “Maybe I wasn’t sweet?” She laughs. But now she is. Like her song and the film, she remains hopeful and determined – maybe the academy will make it a sweet 16 for Warren.
