If you liked the Timothée Charam as the emerging, scary, early career Bob DylanYou may love the real thing. The newest edition in Dylan’s series of retrospective collections of unreleased material will go all the way back to his musical beginning. “Bootleg Series Volume 18: Through the open window, 1956-1963”, October 31.
By capturing the pre-electrical period when he was considered to be a folk artist, the full boxed set extends eight CDs. Of 139 total tracks, 48 are previously not published, while another 38 are described as “Super-Sänta.” This Deluxe version also contains a hardcover book with line notes by Sean Wilentz and over 100 photos. (Scroll down to see the entire track list.)
Which is typical of the “Bootleg series”, there are also condensed versions for the budget-oriented Dylan Buff, with 42 tracks on 2-CD and 4-LP “highlights” editions.
A previously unknown song in the set, “Rocks and Gravel”, a withdrawal from “Freewheelin ‘Bob Dylan” sessions in 1962, was released on Wednesday morning as a teaser track. Listen to Solo Acoustic Gem below.
Among Full Set’s Fresh offers is a complete recording of Dylan’s show October 26, 1963 in Carnegie Hall, which was presented for the first time.
Wilentz, a Princeton historian who wrote an essay on 125 pages for the boxed set, said in a statement: “Of that time and the places, this collection is just a fragment. Nevertheless, as an aural record by an artist who becomes self-or in Dylan’s case, his first by many artistic ereal is the time to be a collapse of a nostalg distinct as we might think. ”
