Best fall hairstyle trends and styles for 2025

Look at the cyclical nature of trends, and summer has long been established as the all-encompassing season of ease. The pool is floating! Low-key hairstyles! Holidays that are not limited to the whitewashed walls of your small apartment living room. But as recent years have shown: societal norms are changing. Now it is so falls turn to churn out hairstyle ideas which are equal parts breezy and bold – and they take some inspiration from the past.

While the fall season has historically seen an influx of polished cuts to match the fresh new wardrobes, these are exactly the types of styles you should avoid in the coming months. “We’re seeing a lot more strained, undone, messy looks this year,” says hairstylist and creative director Seiji Kitazato. Plus, “we all know fashion always comes back in style, and the same goes for hair.”

Just to be clear: That doesn’t mean summer’s beachy waves are transitioning into the new season, and according to celebrity hairstylist Tommy Buckett, that’s a good thing. “Beach waves (can) be unattainable for some to achieve, so if we want to get that style, we have to achieve them in a more realistic way, like working with natural texture and using a curling iron to polish.”

Instead, it means you’ll see shorter cuts, throwback styles, feather bangs and more. From simple layers that are simple and elegant, to the blunt bob celebrities love, there is a haircut du jour for everyone’s taste. “Always remember that we have to start with hair type and face shape to make sure the look suits them as well,” says Kitazato.

Either way, says Buckett, “Hair is fun and an accessory to our personalities. Don’t get stuck in a rut of doing the same thing you always do.” To help you prepare for your next meeting, keep reading for a breakdown of the coolest pro-approved haircut trends worth trying this fall.
