The Berlin Film Festival has revealed the lineup for the 2025 edition, runs 13-23 February. It is the first official lineup overseen by new artistic director and former BFI London Film Festival director Tricia Tuttle, who succeeds Carlo Chatrian and brings her background as an American journalist and curator to the annual German showcase. She is also working with co-directors of programming, Jacqueline Lyanga and Michael Stütz, to help reposition Berlinale’s profile among major global cinema festivals and attract bigger-name filmmakers in the process.
This year’s lineup, announced Tuesday, January 21, includes new films from Richard Linklater (“Blue Moon”, starring Ethan Hawke and Margaret Qualley), Michel Franco (“Dreams”, starring Jessica Chastain), Rebecca Lenkiewicz (“Hot Milk”, starring Fiona Shaw), Hong Sangsoo (“What Does That Nature Say to You” “), Radu Jude (“Kontinental ’25”) and Lucile Hadžihalilović (“The Ice Tower”). Already confirmed in the mix are Bong Joon Ho’s “Mickey 17” and Ira Sachs’ Sundance premiere “Peter Hujar’s Day,” plus Tom Tykwer’s “The Light,” which opens the festival. Tuttle also introduced a new section titled Perspectives, a selection of 14 feature film debuts, most of which are world premieres. More titles have been added to the Berlinale Special lineup, including the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown,” which is eyeing a handful of Oscar nominations this week.
