Green Day and Alanis Morissette set the tone at the Fireaid advantage with songs of hope and resilience. Then came Anderson .pakwho transformed the stage at Kia Forum into a California celebration and produced legendary musicians Sheila e. and Doctor Dre To chip in both his songs and some of Dre.
Billie Joe Armstrong was on hand to introduce .paak, an Oxnard-in-born, which kicked the energy to full equipment during his four-song. Sheila E., a Prince collaboration partner and the greased queen of percussion, seemed to strengthen the reproduction of “Put Me Thru” and “Come Down”, with PAAK who started behind the kit and moved to the front of the stage.
Then came one of the first surprises of the night: a moving appearance from Dre, who has collaborated with .pak several times over the years, including on his album 2015 “Compton.” .PAAK played hype man to Dre for “still Dre”, with Dre who takes a few moments to address the audience and the historical night.
“I want to say this is a magical moment for me,” Dre said. “I have so much love for you and this summer it will be the mark of 40 years that I have been in this industry. And I appreciate all the love you have given me, and the reason we are here I appreciate all the first answers and firefighters who put their lives on the line and I appreciate all that love. It’s about love for me for the night. But guess what else I got? ”
Thus, “California Love”, a West Coast Hyremne that brought the three artists to ropes for the city. When the last notes rang, .pak thanked their supporting role of characters as the evening continued.
