Netflix just had one of his best quarters everand adding nearly 19 million subscribers to surpass 300 million subscribers for the first time. So it’s clear that it raises prices.
The ad tier for Netflix will now cost $7.99/month, up $1 a month from its previous price, and the most expensive premium tier will increase by an extra $2 a month to $24.99/month. The standard tier is also up, as is the cost of adding an extra member to your remote viewing plan, but the cost of doing so via the ad plan remains the same.
Standard with ads: $6.99 → $7.99
Standard: $15.49 → $17.99
Premium: $22.99 → $24.99
Extra Member: $7.99 → $8.99
Extra Member with Ads: $6.99 (no change)
“As we continue to invest in programming and deliver more value to our members, from time to time we will ask our members to pay a little more so we can reinvest to further improve Netflix,” the company said in its quarterly letter to investors. “To that end, we are adjusting prices today for most plans in the US, Canada, Portugal and Argentina (which was already included in the 2025 guidance we provided in October 2024).”
We were overdue for a price increase of any kind, and as Netflix indicated in its earnings report on Tuesday, it has already baked 2025 guidance into its previous forecasts, so analysts had a hunch something was coming. The last major price increase was in October 2023, and other streamers have been raising prices like clockwork almost every year.
However, Netflix removed its basic plan last year, meaning anyone on the lower cost tier had to either get ads or upgrade to the more expensive tier.
More to come…
