What Donald Trump had to say about Melania Trump’s inauguration hat

It’s the hat everyone’s talking about—even Donald Trump.

After being sworn in as the 47th President of the United States during The 2025 presidential inaugurationcommented the Commander-in-Chief First Lady Melania Trumps scene-stealing accessory, a navy blue brimmed hat with a white band designed by Eric Javits.

“We went out to the helicopter right before this and said goodbye,” Trump told the crowd on Jan. 20 as his wife watched from the stage. “The wind is blowing like crazy, and with the hat she’s wearing, she almost blew it away.”

“We almost lost her,” he continued as the audience laughed. “She was lifted off the ground. She was almost blown away.”

The First Lady’s headpiece topped one Adam Lippes ensemble which consisted of a double-breasted navy blue silk wool coat and matching pencil skirt, along with an ivory silk crepe blouse and blue suede leather.

“The tradition of the presidential inauguration embodies the beauty of American democracy and today we were honored to dress our first lady, Mrs. Melania Trump,” Lippes said of the custom wardrobe in a statement shared on Jan. 20. “Mrs. Trump’s outfit was created by some of America’s finest artisans and I am very proud to show such work to the world.”
