Hey-ho, hey-ho, it’s off live action Snow White we go! This spring, the first Disney princess gets an innovative gig Hunger Games’ Rachel Zeglerand the first movie was just released at the D23 Expo. You can check out the first trailer above.
While this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Zegler in the princess’ iconic dress, the trailer marks the debut of Crazy Gadotour former Wonder Woman transforms into the Evil Queen. Take a look:
Doesn’t she just look devilish? In terms of style, Disney really goes out of its way to preserve the design and aesthetics that got Walt Disney Animation from the ground up with feature film production back in 1937. Zegler’s dress is almost identical to the animated Snow, and Gadot definitely channels the villain from the classic.
The trailer also offers a bit of Zegler singing some of the memorable songs from the original film, like “Whistle While You Work” or sitting in front of a wishing well for the first number “I’m Wishing.” There is also a brief look at Snow White’s prince, played by Andrew Burnap in the trailer.
Despite Zegler faces backlash over this castingshe looks like she will absolutely embody the role of Snow White, and I especially can’t wait to hear her sing the Disney songs I grew up with. She has a beautiful voice which she has showcased in West Side Story and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Serpents.
The original Snow White film is not a complicated story. I wonder what changes will be made to remodel it after all this time. Last year, Zegler went viral for being fired from the role (which clearly wasn’t true) after she said that Snow White won’t be “saved” by a prince this time, which led to a lot of hate. How will her story differ?
Gadot, on the other hand, looks like she’s having a blast as the Evil Queen. After watching her play a superhero too Wonder Woman movies, I want to see her in this one, and after seeing her in this trailer, I get the vision for this cast.
This new Snow White the film would actually be a part of 2024 movieswhich would have fit a bit better with Disney’s recent 100th anniversary. However, the movie played with a big delay towards the end of last year when the studio announced that it was moving its release date down a full year. This was allegedly due to the SAG-AFTRA strike going on at the time. Rumors also came out that Disney was moving the movie because they were nervous that it would bomb at the box office.
Snow White hits theaters on March 21, 2025, with no other big movies out at the same time. The first trailer unveiled at D23 has definitely sold me on the two leads and its gorgeous visuals.
