It has been over a year since the start of the much published back and forth between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Hip hop beef Gave us Lamar’s Grammy-winning Hymne, “not like us,” and led to a legal fire with dragon that suits his own label, Universal Music Group (UMG), over allegations of “Delve his brand” in the middle of the tensions.
Several key figures in hip-hop shared their opinions, while others were directly involved who presented guests on Lamar or others’ several diss-tracks. A $ AP Rocky showed up on Future and Metro Boomin’s single “Show of Hands”, believed to be directed at Drake with texts referring to his girlfriend – and Drake’s rumored ex – Rihanna.
“Still, don’t trust you, it’s always us, never them,” Rocky rapes on “Show of hands.” “Heard you lost your latest sh*t / funny how it just came and went (ha-ha-ha).”
On Tuesday Rocky split in an interview with Älte That he thought the diss tracks were “healthy for hip hop.”
“The battle was between Kendrick and Drake, not Drake and everyone else who may have said something at that time, and that’s mainly why I fell back,” Rocky told Elle. “I just hate how it turns out with (dragon) atmosphere and all this. What part of the game is it? What kind of shit is it? It’s none of my business, I guess.”
Lucian GraingeChairman and CEO of UMG, the world’s largest music company, called Drake’s claims about slander and that Grainge was involved in the planning and release of that song “Farcical”, “Nonsensical”, “baseless and really ridiculous” in a declaration letter submitted in August. Grainge noted that the company had spent “hundreds of millions” to support the Canadian rapper’s music career.
Before Grainge’s response, Drake had submitted a proposal to reverse the label’s contract with Lamar, along with details about alleged claims of home violence and committed by Lamar, who released “Not Like Us” and other songs that refer to the battle via UMGS Interscope Division.
