It has probably been five or six “next project” as Martin Scorsese Has been reported directing after he made “Killers of the flower moon” in 2023, but this one can finally have some real legs for it.
Scorsese has undertaken to direct “What Happens at night”, which is a scary Ghost Story adaptation of a 2020 book by Peter Cameron, a person with knowledge of the project told IndieWire. Leonardo DiCaprioOf course would be in the lead role in film alongside Jennifer Lawrence. Apple Original films also circle the project, with an eye for financing and produces it together with Studiocanal, which developed the script.
What makes “what happens at night” seems like it really is the next is that there is a fairly day start date in January that is eyes (but wouldn’t Leo be in the middle of an Oscar campaign for “one battle after the other?”). Apple has but also has the first look about Scorsese Sikelia production banner and DiCaprio’s Appian -way, so the reunion after “Killers of the flower moon” makes sense.
It also has a script! Patrick Marber (“closer”, “Notes on a scandal”) wrote it, with studiocanal that has developed it since 2023, far back when Scorsese was only interested in producing at that point. The story has some serious “The Shining” meets “Shutter Island” vibber about a couple traveling to Europe and checks in at a mysterious hotel to adopt a child, just to see that nothing is as it seems and as the couple’s wife is sick with a cancer diagnosis.
But let’s not forget that Scorsese has kicked around several projects since “Flower Moon” that everyone made as much likely meaning. There was one “Sinatra” Biopics We’ve heard of foreverAnd that you would also have played DiCaprio and Lawrence as Ava Gardner. There was a report on one Crime drama in Hawaii that would have played Dwayne Johnson. There was “Jesus’ life,” who paused for script audits. Apple also circulated another Scorsese/DiCaprio project that would have been based on the “Gilead” series with books. And we were also told that another long-gestured project that has changed lots of hands, “the devil and the white city,” was revived in the 1900s With, you guessed it, DiCaprio attached again. We know he will pick up the phone at any time Marty calls. This would be their seventh movie together.
DiCaprio for what it is worth has also been linked to lots of projects, without clear indication of what his next would be. Damien Chazelle wanted to do an Evel Knievel -Biopic, and it may have finally fallen through.
In the meantime, Lawrence played in Lynne Ramsay’s “Die, My Love” which premiered at Cannes and was acquired by Mubi, and she has also circled a couple of A24 films as well.
No matter what Scorsese is directing, let’s hope it will soon be for the 82-year-old legend.
Deadline first reported the news.
