The TV critic association puts their chips on “Severance.” The second season of Apple TV+ Original received a total of five nominations for the organization’s upcoming awards, more than any other program. These awards included this year’s program, outstanding performance in drama and three individual performance in drama dominations for Britt Lower, Adam Scott and Tramell Tillman.
There were four series that received four nominations each: HBO Max’s “The Pitt”, HBO Max’s “Hacks”, Netflix’s “Adolescence” and Apple TV+’S “The Studio.” After these series, the most nominated programs were CBS’s “Matlock”, Disney+’s “Andor” and HBO’s “The rehearsal”, which secured three nominations per piece.
On the network and streaming side, HBO led the packaging, but Netflix was not too far behind. Between HBO and Max Originals secured Warner Bros. Discovery mark 22 nominations for Netflix 18. This ranking is not very shocking. HBO and Netflix have traded best prices for several years. What is surprising is that Apple TV+ came in third place with 14 nominations, increased by strong views from their S-show “Severance”, “Studio” and “Shrinking.”
Third place is usually around where FX lives, but not this year. Disney+ came in fourth place with eight nominations completely, and after its stellar 2024 tied with CBS and PBS for fifth place with seven noms each.
TCA Awards marked the expected heavy hitters from this television season from beloved cornerstone like “Severance” and “Hacks” to new buzzy hits such as “Teens” and “The Pitt.” But several awards Darlings seem to have fallen in favor of critics. FX’s “The Bear” got only a nomination for its third season. Similarly, ABC’s “Abbott Elementary” and HBO’s “The White Lotus” got only two nominations.
There were also some surprises. Adult Swims Trippy “Common Siveffects” got a nod for outstanding new program as well as Sean Evans “Hot.” This is probably exciting news for Youtube and the “Hot Ones” team because the TCA Awards have a good track record for predicting Emmy choice. Showtime’s “Couples Therapy”, which won outstanding performance in reality in 2021, also appeared on the vote.
“With these nominations, we honor the art that television and the artists who create it,” said TCA President Andy Dehnart, the founder and the editor of reality blurred. “Our members independently chose these nominees, after promoting these shows and in their writing, reporting and criticism over the past year.”
TCA is a non-profit organization of 235 professional TV journalists from all over the United States and Canada. Nominations were elected by members who chose the most outstanding programs over broadcast, cable and streaming which premiered between June 1, 2024 to 31 May 2025. 2025 Career performance and Heritage Award winners will be announced at a later date. This year, the TCA prize winners will be revealed later this summer over TCA’s social media rather than at the organization’s annual price exhibition. Due to contraction in the industry, the Summer TCA tour was canceled, which is usually when the price exhibition takes place earlier this year.
