As if it were not unreal enough to have a withdrawal of legendary indie cutting store Rough Trade in New York’s Rockefeller CenterRight next to Radio City Music Hall, there will soon be two.
“Rough trade Below ”, the new 4,000 square meter space, opens in the spring and will be at Rockefeller Centers Rink Level, directly against the Rockefeller Center/47-50 Street metro station. The space, which is significantly larger than the store upstairs, will offer more room for live-performance events and recruits.
Since the first Rockefeller Center store opened in 2021, after moving from its former place in Brooklyn, it has hosted close, without frills shows and recruits with Green Day, Coldplay, Charli XCX, De la Soul and others. It also hosts concerts in the nearby Rainbow Room and Indieplaza by the Rough Trade festival in the Rockfeller Center.

The new store will also significantly expand the range of artist and band products and audio equipment such as turntables and speakers, as well as new and used vinyl and CDs. The existing Rough Trade store will be known as Rough Trade Above.
The original Rough Trade store was founded in 1976 in the Ladbroke Grove district of west London. Inspired by City Lights Bookstore in San Francisco, the store quickly became a hub for the budding DIY and punk culture and was the contact point for countless groups and labels. In 1978, the self -titled record label was born in the store and continued to release classic singles and albums of falls, The Smiths, The Strokes and many others.
Together with the sites in New York, Rough Driving Trade seven stores in the UK (West, East, Denmark Street, Vintage – all London, plus Bristol, Nottingham & Liverpool) and one in Berlin.
