President Elect Donald Trump wants to make Hollywood great again and return it to another “Golden Age”.
The incoming POTUS has appointed Jon Voight, Mel Gibsonand Sylvester Stallone as “Special Ambassadors” to Hollywood. Their job description will be to bring jobs back to what he says is a “good but very troubled place”, having seen business travel to “foreign countries” for the past four years.
“It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone as special ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Thursday. “They will act as special emissaries to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost a lot of business over the last four years to foreign countries, BACK – BIGGER, BETTER AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE! These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will have what they suggest. It will once again be, like America itself, The Golden Age of Hollywood!”
Trump is not wrong that Hollywood has seen productions heading abroad more and more in recent years because the cost of doing business here has increased. California Governor Gavin Newsom (who Trump recently called “Newscum” because of his response to the Los Angeles wildfires) has proposed additional tax incentives, up to $750 millionto attract production back to its home state. IndieWire has reported on how others states have gotten creative beyond just tax credits.
It’s unclear what Voight, Gibson and Stallone will be asked to do specifically, but all three actors have been vocal advocates for Trump. Stallone called Trump the “second George Washington” at an event at Mar-a-Lago in November; Gibson has sided with Trump and attacked the intelligence of his election opponent Kamala Harris; and Voight shared his love for Trump in one Variety cover story last July.
Gibson has a new one film soon in theaters: “Flight Risk” starring Mark Wahlberg. It marks his first work as a director since 2016. Voight just starred in Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis,” and Stallone stars in the Paramount+ series “Tulsa King” and a new movie opening this weekend called “Alarum.”
Trump will be re-inaugurated on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
